Pinball Ride Screen Shots

Pinball Ride 1.1 Update has been released last week and it has been keeping us very busy. We are very happy about that :)
The game quickly became #1 Overall Free App in Mexico. We'd like to thank our Mexican players.

We've been a bit taken by surprise, Apple approval has been very quick. We can only be happy to notice that Apple has greatly improved the approval process.
So here are some recent screenshots, you can find all of them in the Press Kit:

Overall table view, we completely redesigned the left part of the table, with the new ramp, and the skyscraper. It now provides cool Light Shows, while keeping a really smooth frame rate. Tip: If you want to change the camera angle you can access the pause menu by tapping the score and set the camera to look like the screen below.

The multi-balls is now much easier to unlock, you have to get into the Garage Parking and it randomly unlocks multi-balls mode, but it's still difficult to master. To rise the challenge, we've added new achievements when you keep multi-ball active for more than 1, 2 or 5 minutes.

Story screens illustrate your progress through the story, we added a lot of new illustrations in the later parts of the story. Tips: A nice thing for expert players also is that you can skip them by simply tapping on it.

We improved our Facebook integration and publishing system, we've added score medal to represent your rank using illustrations inspired by the universe of the table. One thing about Facebook publishing that players asked for was to be able to publish their score on demand, now it's possible.

We added a few new Achievements in this version: Nightlife, Chase and Golden Boy.

Please don't hesitate to comment on the post.
We hope you like this release.

5 Key Improvements in Pinball Ride 1.1

Pinball Ride has been here for 4 months now and we're happy to announce that the free version of Pinball Ride has been downloaded more than 300.000 times. This is an important milestone for the project as Pinball Ride 1.1 will soon be available.

The update has been beta-tested and we've been integrating players' feedback. We've achieved our objectives for this new version and we're happy to announce that Pinball Ride 1.1 Update has been submitted to the AppStore last week.

The last 4 months, we've been improving the game in 5 major areas :
  • Presentation: Icon, Title screen and Menus.
  • Facebook Publishing and new Dashboard support.
  • Table: Layout, Look, Story, Challenges, Achievements.
  • Physic simulation and precision of controls.
  • Credit system: Gifting, Replay score, Lottery, Store.
It's an iterative process and some improvements took more iterations than others. We think it's time to give the update a try, so that we can improve again with community's feedback.

We've already talked about the first three topics in previous posts, without going to much into details to keep the surprise.

Physic simulation and controls

Recently, we've been fine tuning physic simulation and controls. The feeling of speed of the game has improved and we reduced flippers reaction time to keep precise controls in any situation. Speed is really important to have a great pinball feeling. Increasing speed was a challenge because it pushes a lot of technical systems to the limit.

The recent changes can be a bit surprising for Pinball Ride players that are used to the way the physics worked and got very good at it. That's why it took a long time to settle on these changes. Tests with newcomers and experts have shown that it's much easier to get into and more precise.
As soon as you'll get your hands on the Update, be sure to take some time to learn it, and you'll enjoy the game more than ever :) Your feedback is welcome, be sure to send it to: feedback@massivefinger.com.

The game keeps a solid 30 frames per second on iPhone 3G, and an impressive 60 frames per second on iPhone 3GS (when the music is turned off).

Credit system

Another addition is the credit system, we've had prototypes of it working before Pinball Ride came out, but we decided to postpone this feature for a later update.

Pinball Ride's credit system's idea came from a discussion with some players.

Nostalgic pinball players were asking if it was possible to make the pinball machine knock. Back in the days, if you made a really high score a.k.a the replay score, you were rewarded with an extra game. It meant a lot because you had to spend a quarter for each game you played, plus every one in the bar would notice you because of the loud sound of the knocker.
For the social aspect of this story we have our Facebook Dashboard integration, your friends will be notified on their Dashboard. For the reward, you receive a free credit. If you own the full version you can gift the credit to one of your friends. If you use the free version you can use the credit for a classic game, and play for free forever if you are really good :)

In the same context, players were asking for a lottery system like the one you find at the end of a game of pinball machine. So if you're lucky at the lottery you get a free credit.

In the end, the credit system gives another way to play in addition to Free and Unlimited.

To summarize here is how to get a credit :
  • Replay Score has been introduced in this update and is set by default to 100 million points. When you reach this score on any version you get a free credit. (with a limit of 3 free credits every 24 hours)
  • Lottery has also been introduced, when you play using a credit in the free version, you get a chance to get a free credit by going to the lottery.
  • Receive credits from your friends that own the full version of the game.
  • Owners of the full version you can win a replay score credit and give it to their Facebook friends.
  • Owners of the free version can also unlock the full game by purchasing an Unlimited Pass at the store.
It's our first proposition of the system to the gaming community and we hope it will excite existing players as well as lowering the barrier for newcomers. As always, feedback is welcome: feedback@massivefinger.com.

Thank you,

The Pinball Ride Team.
